Brad Pitt's next outing, KILLING THEM SOFTLY, has had a few delays and a title change (formerly COGAN'S TRADE), but mostly positive reviews and a slick marketing campaign. Today, we have a new trailer for the film, which reteams Pitt with Andrew Dominik, the director of THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD. Based on the novel by George V. Higgins, the story follows a mob enforcer (Pitt) who is investigating a poker game robbery. Sounds pretty thin, but you throw in an intricately woven, metaphor-laden story with some stylish brutality and this could very well be this year's DRIVE. Pitt is joined by veteran actors Ray Liotta, Richard Jenkins, Sam Shepard, andJames Gandolfini.
I prefer the "Johnny Cash" trailer myself, but this is still pretty cool. I'm actually more excited for this than many other films coming out this season as it's not an easy one to peg. I'm genuinely interested to see this on the big screen as Dominik (who also did CHOPPER with Eric Bana) has got a unique visionary style and Pitt is in top form at this stage of his career. All in all, I'm thinking this could be a sleeper hit.
KILLING THEM SOFTLY is out November 30, 2012.
