Mission Impossible 5 Director? Position Filled!

The recently divorced actor’s constant companion of late has been nerdy Hollywoodscreenwriter/ director Christopher McQuarrie, who co-wrote “All You Need Is Kill,” the film Tom has been working on in England.

McQuarrie penned Tom’s 2008Hitler assassination movie, “Valkyrie,” polished some of last year’s smash “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” and wrote the screenplay and directed the upcoming cop drama, “Jack Reacher.”
McQuarrie was even planning a  highly anticipated sequel to Tom’s first major hit, 1986’s “Top Gun,” but that’s on hold due to the recent suicide of director Tony Scott.

In many recent photographs, McQuarrie can be seen just a step or two behind Tom, wearing dark-rimmed glasses and looking like a young Stephen King.

And now it's rumored that Tom Cruise's "Mission: Impossible V" project might be close to finalizing McQuarrie to direct. After Brad Bird confirmed he wouldn't helm the fifth "Mission: Impossible" movie, Paramount Pictures has now set its eyes on Christopher McQuarrie to direct Cruise's signature action film franchise.
