New Fe-Male Lead in Wanted 2?

After attempts to bring Angelina Jolie back as Fox in "Wanted 2" have failed, the movie is now forced to move forward anyway without her. However, screenwriter Derek Haas promised that the upcoming "Wanted (2008)" sequel would have a new female lead who's going to be as badass as Fox. He additionally revealed that the story would pick up four years after the events in the 2008 film.

Giving some updates on the long-gestating sequel, Haas shared to Hollywood.com, "After four years, from a creative standpoint, it's almost better, because we can pick up the story four years later." He dished, "It's 'Where is Wesley (James McAvoy) four years after the events of the first movie?' "

Haas, who partners Michael Brandt to pen the script for the sequel, went on explaining that he wouldn't try to bring Jolie back because the goal was not to undo anything that happened in the original pic. "Angelina Jolie gets shot in the head and everyone's like, 'Oh, are you going to bring back Fox?' I said, 'Did you see the bullet go into her head?' And they say, 'Oh, she can take one of those milk baths!' We never wanted to do that movie."

Revealing more details on the plot after the death of Fox, Haas said, "The only thing I can tell you is that Wesley is now, four years later, recruiting a young woman who is in his situation in the first movie. She's got a sh**ty life. He's sort of in the Fox role. This new girl is brought into the world."

Despite the success of the first film, Jolie had made it clear that she would not return to the sequel. Explaining her decision to leave the project, she once said, "Being dead makes it difficult. They were [trying to bring me back], but I kind of feel like if I die in a movie, I should die actually... It would just be doing the exact same thing in another movie, so it's not that interesting to me."

Bringing back Timur Bekmambetov to directing seat, "Wanted 2" is still in the screenwriting phase. Haas said that he and Brandt were still readying to deliver their second draft of the script. The original movie successfully scored $341.4 million worldwide.
