James Cameron is set to direct yet another film with a tough female as its lead character. The "Titanic" helmer has signed on to adapt Taylor Stevens' novel "The Informationist" to the silver screen, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Since Cameron recently vowed not to make any other films before his "Avatar" projects are finished, the Canadian filmmaker is expected to jump into "Informationist" right after he wraps the second and third chapters of the billion dollars franchise. He will develop the project for 20th Century Fox.
Stevens' novel, which rights have recently been picked up by Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment banner, has a female lead character who is often compared to Stieg Larsson's
famous heroine Lisbeth Salander. The name of the character is Vanessa "Michael" Munroe, a central Africa-born lady. Michael spent her teenage years as a protege of gunners and mercenaries. Later on, she transforms herself as an informan for wealthy clients. However, when a billionaire hires her to find his missing daughter in Africa, Michael finds herself back in the Dark Continent.
In addition to serving behind the lens, Cameron will serve as the producer along with Jon Landau
. Of his new project, the National Geographic filmmaker says, "Taylor Stevens' Vanessa Michael Munroe is an intriguing and compelling heroine with an agile mind and a thirst for adventure. Equally fascinating for me is her emotional life and her unexpected love story." His partner Landau adds, "This was an opportunity to continue our relationship with Fox and Jim Gianopulos beyond the Avatar films. We were drawn to this book because of the terrific, compelling narrative and the character, who typifies the strong female protagonists that have inhabited Jim's work. In this case, Vanessa Munroe is essentially a mix of Lisbeth Salander and Jason Bourne."
The duo is currently looking for writer[s] to pen the script.
