Iron Man Trivia- Some Cool Unknown Facts! For all 3 Movies

As Iron Man arrives to the screens 2 weekends ago for the 3rd time ( technically 4 if you count the Avengers), check out some awesome film junkeez trivia for the 3 movies!

Director Jon Favreau says that this weekend's blockbuster contains a special tribute to King of All Media Howard Stern.  Favreau, a close friend of The Howard Stern Show.

Jon Favreau was originally going to direct Captain America: The First Avenger in the manner of a superhero comedy adventure, but he instead chose to direct this film and give it a more serious tone. Ironically, Nick Cassavetes, who was chosen to direct that film, had been filled in to direct this film in December 2004.

Nicolas Cage and Tom Cruise were interested in playing Iron Man. Cruise in particular was going to act in and produce the film. Cage played another Marvel superhero in Ghost Rider.

According to Jon Favreau, Clive Owen and Sam Rockwell are among the actors that were considered for Tony Stark during pre-production. Rockwell would get a part in Iron Man 2 as Stark's rival Justin Hammer.

  • Director Jon Favreau played a character similar to Tony Stark named Pete Becker on the hit television series Friends. Both Stark and Becker are rich playboys who give up their current life to fight, Tony fights crime while Pete fights in Ultimate Fighting. Favreau even sported Stark-like facial hair for the role.

  • The character of Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke) is a combination of Iron Man's enemy the Crimson Dynamo (Dr Vanko, who wears weaponry/armour that can control electricity) and the supervillain Whiplash (who possesses a specially-designed razor/acid whip). In addition, the character is portrayed as the son of Anton Vanko, who was the original Crimson Dynamo in the comics, and assumes the identity of B. Turgenev (Boris Turgenev, in the comics the second Crimson Dynamo).

According to Mickey Rourke, he carried out a lot of research in Russia choosing what tattoos Ivan Vanko should carry on his body. He wanted authentic Russian tattoos, which would represent Vanko's Russian heritage, prison societies, and special clubs he might be in.

  • Robert Downey Jr. had previously starred in Shane Black's film Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and spoke highly of Black replacing Jon Favreau, saying that "bringing in Shane Black to write and direct the film is basically the only thing that Favreau and the audience and Marvel and I could ever actually sign off on."

  • Shane Black admitted that Jon Favreau gave him tips and advice during filming (for which he was very grateful and thankful for) though noted that this film would have a "different feel" than the other two.

  • The only Iron Man film not to feature any songs by AC/DC.
