JUNKEEZ ALERT! Jamie Foxx May Play Electro in the Next SpiderMan?

Rumors that Electro will be the villain in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" might be true after all. Variety shares the scoop that an actor has been approached to play the supervillain, and he is none other than the "Django Unchained" leading man Jamie Foxx. 

Multiple sources, however, note that Foxx is still in early talks with Sony Pictures. Still, the Oscar-winning "Ray" actor manages to add fuel to his casting report as tweeting, "Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well." 

Though Foxx hasn't been confirmed for the part, director Marc Webb has already made a comment on the actor's possible involvment in the Spidey film. "I think Jamie Foxx is electrifying," he says at the press junket of "The Amazing Spider-Man" DVD/Blu-ray release. 

"I think Jamie Foxx is one of the best actors around today. He's such a great character actor and he's a really brilliant guy. I would love to work with him and you'll be hearing more on that shortly, I'm sure." 

Of Electro himself, Webb says, "I like Electro." He goes on, "I'm fascinated by Norman Osborn and the different inflections of him. And Harry. Mary Jane and Gwen are always interesting to me." 

For those who are unfamiliar with Electro, the antagonist is also known as Max Dillon. He gains the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning while working on a power line. The character first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #9, which was published in February 1964. 

Speculations that Electro will appear in the "Amazing Spider-Man" sequel sparked after audience noticed lightning that was prominently featured in the post-credit scene of the first film. In it, Dr. Curt Connors was locked in an asylum and he was visited by a mysterious figure who asked if Peter Parker knew the truth about his father. 




The upcoming Spidey sequel will bring back Webb as the director.Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will also return as Peter and his first love Gwen Stacy respectively. Though Gwen will still make appearance, the sequel reportedly will also feature Peter's other love interest Mary Jane Watson, who reportedly will be played by Shailene Woodley. 

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" will make its way out onto the U.S. cinemas on May 2, 2014.

Hell, they even own a cricket team together. But just like the performances of Kings XI Punjab slowly going downhill, so did their union. River Phoenix's "Dark Blood" Finally Released After 20 Years

Nineteen years after the death of River Phoenix, the actor's final movie, "Dark Blood," is finally finished. The older brother of Joaquin Phoenix was just 23 when he died of an apparent overdose on October 31, 1993.

The "Stand By Me" co-star was shooting "Dark Blood" the day before he died, and his blond hair was still dyed dark brown for the role. The Danish director of the film, George Sluizer, got hold of the footage, which was left unfinished, and completed it with his own voice-overs.


The film opened at the Netherlands Film Festival, and Variety called it "a surprisingly coherent vision of a decidedly oddball story set in the Arizona desert."

The Hollywood Reporter describes Phoenix's role in the film as a hermit who lives on a nuclear testing site and is waiting for the end of the world. He is joined by two stranded vacationers (played by Judy Davis and Jonathan Pryce), who are seeking shelter after their car breaks down. Phoenix is "suitably charismatic and commanding air in his final role," according to Variety.

That the movie was finished at all is somewhat miraculous. According to Variety, back in 1999 the insurance company that had the footage wanted to destroy it rather than pay storage costs. Sluizer took back the unmade film, but some legal issues over its rights still exist.

Sequel to the Bourne Movies?

I've always enjoyed the BOURNE movies, shaky camera and all.  While THE BOURNE IDENTITY is easily my favorite of the original three, they are all very solid pieces of entertainment that manage to both show the human cost of modern-day military programs and be entertaining on an action level at the same time.  That sort of balancing act is one that is difficult enough even to attempt, let alone accomplish.  And while the technical side of the storytelling may hamper the end result for some people, I do think that the heart, blood, and broken bones beneath shine forth with relative consistency.

Which brings us to THE BOURNE LEGACY.  The movie came and went without a great deal of fanfare back in August, sandwiched between TOTAL RECALL and THE EXPENDABLES 2.  Somehow its worldwide total managed to be double the reported budget, and reviews were on the whole far better than what a perceived cash-grab like LEGACY could have been.  The fundamental issue with the film, perhaps, is that it fairly screams for a sequel.  It felt, if anything, more like the first half of a story rather than the complete tale.  Anything truly interesting with Renner's character of Aaron Cross is not going to happen until after the events of LEGACY, and so the film is in the rather unique position of being incomplete without a sequel and yet unsure whether a sequel will actually come to pass.  There's been talk of Matt Damon coming back in, or at least the desire for him to do so, but whether that pans out or not the question becomes: is Aaron Cross' story going to get a second shot at really taking off, or will it remain drifting in unfulfilled limbo?

It is of course very true that not all sequels are made equal, and there are certain criteria that make some more successful than others insofar as "good filmmaking" goes.

1) Is there an organic place for a sequel to go? Yes. Cross spent the film kicking his addiction to chems while discovering that he was actually engineered in a special way that allows him to retain their effects even beyond use.  Now that his "origin" story is out of the way, his place in the greater Treadstone/Outcome/US Military Machine established, and his special set of skills solidified, Cross can move on to an even more engaging mission with greater resonance than his own addiction.

2) Is there somewhere for the characters to go? On the run but safe (for now), the main characters have time to regroup and plan their next move.  Their place in the greater Treadstone/Outcome story writer/director Tony Gilroy hoped to tell is (mostly) clear, and there's plenty of room to see how they respond to the world and how the world responds to them.  And, as already mentioned, Cross has kicked his addiction and Weisz's character of Dr. Shearing has survived a traumatic and dramatic ordeal which revealed to her the true nature of the fire she played with by working with the people that made Aaron Cross into the man he now is.

3) Is there somewhere for the story to go that isn't just a rehash? It'd be a bit tough to make a sequel more than just Aaron Cross hunting down the people who built Outcome in the way Bourne sought to bring justice to the crafters of Treadstone, but there's plenty of leeway in the methods Cross uses and the path on which he travels.  

4) Would it make the original movie better? I firmly believe so, because I am absolutely convinced that we only got half a story with THE BOURNE LEGACY.  A sequel would give his character somewhere to go in response to what he has experienced and discovered, and thereby actually allow him to have a complete character arc.  The character didn't evolve much beyond the semi-superficial end of understanding and kicking his chem addiction, and I for one would like to see how the events of THE BOURNE LEGACY in conjunction with his life and beliefs up until those events have since changed him.  Seeing/exploring this would in turn provide a greater retroactive resonance to LEGACY, a sort of humanity and importance that it desperately needs.

5) Is it possible to guarantee Rachel Weisz in any sort of outfit that works to accentuate her natural beauty? It's possible but not probable, as her relationship with Cross is hardly a sexual one and her general role in the story is of a different sort than some past "Bourne Girls."  While being sequestered together for the sake of safety might cause Cross and Shearing to take solace in each other's arms, I think a great way to further explore the restoration of some of Cross' lost humanity and personality would be to give him a romantic foil of some kind.  Not actual foil though, because that would cut and chaffe and just be all kinds of bad news.

Fundamentally, the problem may be that LEGACY was just outright unnecessary to begin with.  And yes, I know that this isn't exactly a revelation for many of you.  But now that it's here, now that we have it - should the studio let what was started go to waste? The stage has been set.  The players are ready.  The path is there, if not clear.

So that's what I think, though those thoughts of course only raise more questions.  How soon would the new plot pick up after the old? Which possible track could the plot take with Cross' story? Would a sequel only work if Damon came back as Bourne, or could we continue without him? Should Tony Gilroy return to write and direct, should he only write, or should he be out altogether? And perhaps most importantly - would it even be worth the time, money, and effort needed to make a sequel?

Bond Actor Daniel Craig Dismisses Rumors of Possible 'Two-Part' James Bond Film

Daniel Craig is quick to pour cold water on the swirling reports of a possible two-part James Bond movie after "Skyfall". The actor playing 007 in the last three installments of the British spy film franchise claims that there's no way a Bond film could be divided into two parts.

"No, I don't know where that's come from," says the blue-eyed actor in an interview with Filmstarts. "It's impossible to do a two parter, I heard that someone was talking about that we're doing a two parter, but that's the first I've heard about it." 

He explains, "We can only do them one at a time, they take six months to shoot," before stressing, "You can't write one movie thinking about the next. All we're trying to do is get the next one sorted out and it'll stand on its own and if I'm able I'll do another one after that." 

Rumors "Bond 24" and "Bond 25" would present a storyline that crosses in two successive films first sparked when writer John Logan was confirmed to work on two more Bond films. 

Logan has reportedly already begun penning those screenplays. It was previously reported that he pitched an original two-movie arc to producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson while the twenty-third Bond movie was still filming. 

The twenty-fourth installment will likely begin filming in Pinewood Studios in 2013, and the film itself is projected for a fall 2014 release. As for the twenty-fifth one, the tentative release date has yet to be unveiled. 

As for "Skyfall", the film will not open in the U.S. before November 9, but it has been released in many international markets since October 26. The film broke records in international markets as it debuted to more than $77.7 million and became the second highest opening weekend sales in the U.K., trailing behind the 3D-enhanced "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II". 

                                    

It's Official = Bryan Singer will direct the next X-MEN

Just five days after it was announced that Matthew Vaughn would not be directing X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, it looks like they've already found someone else to sit in his chair.

Bryan Singer will take the reins on the next film. Singer is certainly no stranger to our favorite mutants having had a hand in stories and helming responsibilities on X-MEN and X2. He also came in creatively on X-MEN: FIRST CLASS.

In the previous article regarding Vaughn's departure, there was a bit of a disagreement on whether Singer did the comic series any justice. I've gotta tell you-- I think he did just fine-- plus it's better than X3. Vaughn did excellent with the material, but he's out. The next project for him is another comic adaptation, SECRET SERVICE from Mark Millar.

DAYS OF FUTURE PAST was one of my favorite story arcs on the animated series back in the 90s. I have one word: BISHOP. You can't see me, but I'm running in my living room, arms flailing like a happy Muppet.

I can't wait to see what you guys have to say on this one. I'm sure there will be a massive divide on whether this is a good choice or not. Let the battle begin!
